My grandad was 90 in the september as he died in the december when they retired bout 6 months later my nan had a stroke which left he disabled down the one side my grandad did nearly every thing for my nan, when my nan died 7 yars ago part of my grandad died with her, they been married over 50 years, he loved his garden his vegtables he was very proud of he loved a little bet not letting my nan know, she would go mad but didnt mean did it as a joke, he loved going to ascot every year, the last year was horrable it suffered memory lost the last 6 months some times he wouldnt remember who we was the next minute he would, but he kept saying he wanted to be back with fran im glad your happly back together grandad bet she moaning at ya, only joking grandad miss you loads you are also a great grandad to twins now aswell as we told u claire was expecting, love ya xxx
Living with dementia
He is trapped inside the prison walls,
That used to be his mind,
The man that he used to be,
Has long been left behind,
There are times that he is quite alert,
His memory still intact,
Then there are days when he disappears,
And we know it's not an act,
No longer able to care for himself,
We couldn't leave him alone,
His safety had to be assured,
So we placed him in a home,
Good day's are when we visit him,
And he call's us by our names,
He is grateful for the company,
And thankful that we came
Most of the time it's difficult,
To see our dad that way,
All we can do is love him now,
As we take life day by day
